Fumitory (Fumaria officinalis)

Use(s) or Purpose(s)

    • Orally, fumitory is used for gastrointestinal spasms, irritable bowel syndrome, and as a bile flow stimulant. Fumitory is also used for skin eruptions, eczema, conjunctivitis, cardiovascular disorders, as a diuretic, and a laxative.

When used orally in excessive amounts, fumitory an cause convulsions and death.

Known Adverse Reaction(s)
Orally, adverse reactions to fumitory are not common; however, large quantities of alkaloids in other members of this family (Fumariaceae) have caused trembling, convulsions, and death.
